But, before you do anything, check the local laws in your area
to find out about using and possessing these knives. Many states outlaw their
possession outside the home, and impose serious penalties if you're
caught in public with them.
................so don't say I didn't warn
you.
OK, with that said, let
me take a minute to tell you a little about what you can expect in
here........... Or rather, what not to expect.
No history lessons: I don't know who invented
them, or when for that matter. I do know they are said to originate from the
Philippines (and are called "Balisong").
No foreign terms: (Unless, of course, you don't
speak English, sorry) I've tried to explain everything as simply as I can
(These beautiful knives are hard enough to understand without throwing in a
foreign language on top of it!).
No "traditional" training: Make no mistake, I
don't claim to be an expert in the martial arts of the Philippines. I have
studied several other martial arts extensively, and my goal was to combine the
Balisong into those styles. I will not be providing techniques for attacking,
provoking, or harming anyone in any way. The primary focus here will be on
Opening, closing, positioning, and building hand confidence. If you want to
know how to fight, I highly recommend joining your nearest school of martial
arts.
No knives for sale: Unfortunately, the bad
reputation Balisongs have been given has lead to extensive regulations and
restrictions, both here and abroad. Here in New Jersey, you run the risk of
being arrested just for possessing one, though that's a risk I gladly take
every day! I will let you know of anyplace I find that offers them, but you'll
have to take care of getting them yourself.
